Kevin Hale was an Atom Player in the LNHL with a lot of heart, Kevin lost his life in a car accident coming home from a hockey practice March 24, 1996. A Memorial Award was put in place donated by his parents so the memory of Kevin will always remain. The award began in 1997.

Eric Wesslby was a respected coach in the LNHL, AA and AAA Rep Teams in Oshawa MHA. Eric was an Executive Member of both Oshawa MHA and Ontario MHA. He was the Sports Editor of the Oshawa Times daily newspaper. This award began in 1988.

This award began as the BJ Demerchant Trophy for the Atom Player with the Most Heart in 1990 and evolved into the George Grills Award in 1993. George was a coach for the Dines Red Wings for many years. He was the recipient of the CAHA award, Mel Bradley. George was a Builder in Oshawa Minor Hockey.

Doug’s interest in Oshawa Minor Hockey went from 1963 until 1993. In 1993, the Oshawa Little NHL honoured Doug by naming this award after him. It started as the Outstanding Peewee Player in the LNHL and grew to become the award for Outstanding Peewee Players at AE & A.

Don Legree served in various capacities in the LNHL for more then 20 years, Secretary for 13 years, Peewee Team Manager for 18 years, and many years as co-convenor of the Oshawa LNHL Peewee Tournament. Don received the CAHA Award for distinguished service, LNHL Executive of the Year two times, Life Member in Oshawa MHA. He retired as a Manager in 1987, but carried on volunteering for the LNHL & Oshawa MHA until 1993. This Award began in 1993.

This Award began in 1976. Matt Leyden was a long time hockey “builder” in Oshawa and the Province. He was Manager of the Oshawa Generals, 1937 through the 1950’s, Memorial Cup Championships in 1939, 1940, and 1944, Past President of the Ontario Hockey Association (OHA) 1956 to 1967. Life Member of the OHA in 1972.

OUTSTANDING GOALIE DUO – NOVICE to Minor PEEWEE AE & A
Adam Knight was a promising young goaltender, playing in the LNHL during the 1988-90 seasons. In late 1989, Adam, his Mother, and Grandmother, were killed in a car crash. This Award was donated in 1994 to remember Adam as a very happy and committed goaltender, always giving his best with a smile.

DARRELL WALKER MEMORIAL AWARD
OUTSTANDING GOALIE DUO – PEEWEE to Minor MIDGET AE & A
Darrell Walker was a goaltender with the LNHL Midget Bruin. During the 1989-90 season, Darrell passed away due to an unfortunate accident. His family donated this Award in Darrell’s memory, to be awarded to the best goaltender team in the LNHL Midget Program in 1990. This Award has evolved from the best goalie team in the LNHL to the Outstanding Goalie Duo in the Oshawa MHA Peewee to Midget, AE and A Programs.

OUTSTANDING GOALIE DUO – NOVICE to MIDGET AA & AAA
This Award began in 1957. Dutchy was the goaltender on the Oshawa MHA All Ontario Championship 1937-38 Juvenile Team. He was the goaltender of the Oshawa Generals Memorial Cup Team of 1939-40, Oshawa MHA Executive member in the 1950’s & 60’s. Dutchy coached the Oshawa MHA All Ontario Championship 1957-58 Juvenile Team. He is an Oshawa MHA Life Member. The award is presented to goaltenders from Novice to Minor Peewee and Peewee to Midget at AA & AAA.

“Army” Armstrong was an OMHA & OHA Referee. He served as President of Oshawa MHA from 1943 to 1945. The award was started in 1988. This Award recognizes outstanding ability in combining Education and Hockey at the Secondary Level. Each Rep Team at Minor & Major Midget nominates two players per team to be recognized for the Oshawa Minor Hockey Scholastic Award. Each of the nominees receives a plaque. From these nominees, the Awards Committee will select the Overall winner. All nominees are selected based on the following criteria:

OVERALL WINNER – Minor & Major MIDGET – A, AA & AAA
This player attended Saint Charles Garnier Secondary School. He was enrolled in Grade 10 Advanced Academic classes and achieved 89% grade average while playing Rep Hockey with the Oshawa Minor Midget AA team. He is a very coachable and capable defenseman—a leader for his team, both on and off the ice. At school he exemplified excellence both in studies and sports programs. His work ethic and determination earned him the School Athlete of the Year for Grade 9. He played a variety of School sports – hockey, volleyball, badminton, track and field while keeping his 89% grade average. He has volunteered for a total of 73 hours over the last two years with the Boys & Girls Club of Durham. He is a valuable volunteer in the Clubs Aquatic Programs.

This award began in 1986. Harry Dyas has held many positions in Oshawa Minor Hockey. He has been a Dedicated Volunteer as a Manager, Director and President of the LNHL. He is the recipient of the Mel Bradley Award, Life Member of Oshawa Minor Hockey and Certificate of Merit. This Award began in 1987 as the President’s Award. Tom Graham was involved with the following in Minor Hockey: Coach / Manager in the OCHL and LNHL, 1970 to 1996. Past President Oshawa MHA, 1980 to 2006, Past Chair of the Eastern ‘AAA’ League (ETA), 1997 to 2004, Life Member of Oshawa MHA.
