Oshawa Minor Bantam AE Wins 2014 Festival of Lights Tournament!
Minor Bantam AE goes undefeated and wins the Festival of Lights Tournament in NY.

On November 28-30, the Oshawa Minor Bantam AE team visited Niagara Falls, NY to play in the Festival of Lights Tournament. The team went into the weekend with the confidence that they could win after having played well against many of the top ranked teams in Ontario.

The first game was a difficult match-up against the Flyers from Parma, Ohio.  The game was tied at 3 late in the third, when Oshawa scored in dramatic fashion and held off the Flyers to win 4-3.

Oshawa faced the New Jersey Devils in game 2 and the Niagara County Coyotes in game 3. Two very different opponents.  The Devils were a talented squad that played a solid two way game.  Oshawa got ahead early and ended up taking the match 5-2.  The game against the Coyotes was a physical battle.  The Coyotes put an emphasis on crushing their opponents.  Oshawa did not lose focus; they rose to the challenge and outplayed their counterparts earning a 3-0 victory, which propelled them to the finals.

In the finals, Oshawa once again faced the high flying Flyers from Parma.  They were determined to beat Oshawa and chants of 'U-S-A' were once again heard throughout the arena.  The Generals felt that they were playing not only for their city and each other, but had to represent their country against their American opponents.

It was a hotly contested game that was scoreless after one period. Oshawa went ahead in the second and were determined to win. Despite pressure from a very good opponent, Oshawa won the game 3-0.

The victory was a total team effort.  All players worked hard and contributed to the team's success. The Oshawa goaltenders each had a shutout en route to an undefeated and well earned tournament victory.

The weekend was a success off the ice as well, as the team took the opportunity to attend an NHL game together, dine and enjoy each other's company.  Truly a great experience.
