The Oshawa Minor Generals AE Bantam team accomplished
another semi-final appearance during their road trip tournament in Barrie,
which took the team’s undefeated streak to 14 games! The Minor Gens are in possession of an
impressive overall season tournament showing to-date, with two semi-final
appearances and one championship – the highly sought after, Oshawa Cup. In the Barrie tournament, our Generals not
only made it to the semi-finals, but also had several especially exhilarating moments
that delighted the screaming fans.
Following a nail-biter opening game win in fine form, 3-2 against Oakridge, Oshawa went on to defeat Barrie’s strongest AE team by the same score later that day. After taking a 3-1 lead against the Barrie Colts who were reportedly on a 19 game win streak, the Colts closed within just one goal with a nerve-racking amount of time left in the game. But Oshawa (allegedly handing Barrie their first loss of the season) triumphed 3-2 against the galloping Colts, denying them win # 20…a striking outcome against a team who apparently was categorically among the top 12 in Ontario.
In Oshawa’s final game, their opponents were held to just one goal in regulation time. It also featured a thrilling third period Oshawa goal in the final minutes of the game which tied the Clarington Toros 1-1 and took the game into overtime. During a hard-fought battle which kept fans glued to the edge of their seats, Clarington caught a break in overtime and squeaked into the Final where they would lose to the Barrie Colts…the same Colts powerhouse who our Gens proudly defeated earlier in the tournament – a tournament which, although not perfect, clearly demonstrated yet again, our team’s true potential!
Coming soon...update on the Gens return home from their road-trip, and their "highlight reel" bounce-back from Barrie!
