The Oshawa Novice A Minor
Generals captured their first tournament win of the season with a
thrilling 4-3 victory over the Cumberland Jr Grads in the finals of the 2015
Oshawa Hockeyfest Tournament.
The team embraced the philosophy that was set out Day 1 for this team of effort, pressure intensity and confidence in every shift. The team did a phenomenal job through the Round Robin winning by scores of 13-1, 4-0 and 9-1, which yielded some of the best efforts from many of the players.
The Semi-Finals were a different story where the name of the game was defense. While generating a number of scoring opportunities, we were unable to break the 1-1 tie until Landen Stevens broke down the wing with 1:20 remaining in the game and firing the game winning goal over the shoulder of the Leitram goaltender.
The final game against Cumberland Jr Grads had no shortage of excitement. The game was back and forth throughout the entire game, when Cumberland went ahead 3-2 with 10 minutes remaining in the 3rd period. It was time for our boys to shine, coming through with 2 hard fought goals with 3:30 mins remaining in the game. The drama continued as we had to kill two penalties in the final 3 minutes of the game, but again, our team prevailed.
Our goal tending tandem of Qwentin Pierce and Nathan Giroux were stellar all weekend long and provided the confidence the team needed.
Congratulations to the players on the tournament victory .. It’s amazing how far they have come in such a short period of time.
