Novice AAA – Capital Goldrush Champions!
This past weekend, the Oshawa Minor Generals Novice AAA team
travelled to our Nation’s capital to take part in the 3rd Annual
Capital Gold Rush tournament at the Richcraft Sensplex.
The team played to a 2-1-1 record during the round robin which earned them a fourth seed going into Sunday’s playoffs. Their opponent in the semi-finals were the Kanata Blazers to whom they had lost a hard fought 4-3 game in the final 3.1 seconds the day before. The two teams were very evenly matched, and the Generals found themselves in an early 3-1 deficit after the first period. With fierce determination the Generals stormed back with a complete team effort and won the game 6-5 earning themselves a spot in the Final. The championship game was a rematch of the Gens first game of the tournament were they played the host Gloucester Rangers to a 3-3 tie. The team was committed from the opening whistle and won in decisive fashion beating the Rangers 7-0 with goals from seven different players and backstopped by game MVP Justin Gauthier’s shut out performance. All in all it was a great way to start the season for the Novice AAA players and their families, and they are looking forward to even more success in the coming season.
