Tyke Red has an EPIC Tournament Weekend

This weekend for our Tyke 7 Red Team can only be described by one word EPIC.

A word coined for our team for different reasons by our skilled and knowledgeable assistant coach Justin Liscombe.

Why was this weekend Epic?

  • Epic: when 17 players are led by our trusted and fearless Head coach Brad Hancock to leave a tournament a stronger, more confident team on and off the ice than when they first arrived.  All because Coach Brad Hancock has three simple rules: 1. give with 100% effort and support each other 2. Play and communicate as a team; and 3. Have lots and lots of fun.

  • Epic: is when our fun loving assistant coach Charles Bosworth is always approachable and always there for any reason for anybody and everybody on our team.

  • Epic is when 17 different families (65 people) go out to dinner and we take over the entire restaurant like we are at a family reunion –then try to give the entire bill to our  patriarch of our hockey family Brad Hancock.

  • Epic is when our trainer David Craven drives and spends over 4 hours with a player and his mom at the hospital for a minor injury that did not even  happen at the arena to make sure this child has the best treatment.

  • Epic is when your assistant trainer Scott MacDonell steps up as head trainer without skipping a beat.

  • Epic is when our defence Devon Shetler , Finley MacDonell and Brock Cormier  are determined and relentlessly fight  to help our goalie Carson Chappell keep the puck out of our net.

  • Epic is when all the team fathers organized a 3 on 3 mini stick tournament in the hotel for our players that lasts almost 5 hours.

  • Epic is when our mighty defender Marcus Benedict scores his first goal and dedicates this goal to his injured defence partner.

  • Epic is when selfless power forwards like Cole Roberts and Jackson Pollard know that back checking is equally as important as the goals they scored.

  • Epic is when Coach Brad puts out an appetizer platter of nice cheeses, gourmet meats and nuts for the moms and the player siblings gathered in the hotel hallway without skipping a beat.

  • Epic is when our defenceman Gavin Lewis scores from just inside the blue line.

  • Epic is when our wise assistant coach Justin gets locked in the dressing room 1 minute before the starting faceoff of the championship game.

  • Epic is when you see gifted forwards Janessa Griffiths and Jordan Liscombe skating effortlessly and skillfully scoring.

  • Epic is when our strong wingers Nash Davis , Caleb Bosworth and Nathan Craven selflessly pass the puck to their fellow linesmen setting up countless goals for their team

  • Epic is when our fearless Xavier Wesley returns to the ice the next day after having 5 staples in his head and the entire team without hesitation names him the hardest worker.

  • Epic is when 17 kids behave and listen so wonderfully when we say curfew is at 8 pm especially when they are having so much fun.

  • Epic is when the entire team is determined to protect the shutout that our goalie Ryder Fisher fiercely earned in the semi-final game

  • Epic is when Dylan Hancock scores the winning goal to take us to the gold medal game  in overtime on a three on three because his centre man makes a beautiful pass.

  • Epic is when parents are frantically driving back home to take their other children to hockey but will drive back at the wee hours just to be with our team this weekend.

  • Epic is when our talented and proficient centre man Brody Latimer flawlessly buries the puck under pressure on a penalty shot.

  • Epic is when not one player stands out but the entire team stands out as MVPs

  • Epic is winning silver in the final game but your coaches and families are so very proud because the entire team played like gold.

  • Epic is the wonderful memories that were created by the team and their families on and off the ice this past weekend, because honestly it was priceless.

  • This is weekend for The Tyke 7 2017-2018 Red team truly defines why the game of hockey is Epic, it's not always about winning gold medals but creating a lifetime of wonderful memories that are gold.

This weekend will never be forgotten because it was EPIC
