The Minor Atom AAA team took part in the CCM World Invite,
the largest youth Hockey Tournament in the world this past weekend. A total
of 10,000 players from 526 teams from all over North of America came to compete
in this Elite tournament in the Greater Chicago Area and the Minor Atom AAA
team took home the
GOLD in the 09 AAA division!
The semi-final game was a tough battle against the Northern Express team where Goalie Blake Melnychuk got the shut-out for an intense 1-0 final to take us to the Championship game!
The final game against the Chicago Jets was a nail-bitter that included a penalty shot, double overtime and a 5-player shoot-out where Goalie Nolan Hardy stopped them all to secure the tournament champion spot.
All the boys exemplified hard work and teamplay this weekend to go undefeated against teams from Chicago, Illinois, Michigan and Ohio.
The biggest thing we get out of it is seeing the kids smile. And hopefully we will also see that the lessons we’re teaching – not only the fundamentals of hockey, but also the life values – are sinking in. – Bobby Orr
