The
Oshawa Bantam AAA team captured the ETA championship on March 27 with a
lopsided 8-0 win over Barrie. In the previous two games against Barrie, our
bantams had won by scores of 5-2 in both and thus, swept the six point series
in three straight games. Head coach Derrick Smith’s group was the last Oshawa
Minor team to play this season.
The road to the ETA final began with high hopes in the OMHAs. After finishing second in the regular season, the squad faced a tough Kingston group. It took five games, the last three decided by overtime, for Kingston to win the series and send Oshawa to the consolation ETA loop. There, our boys rebounded from a first game loss to Central Ontario and then won the next three over both COW and Whitby, outscoring the opposition 18-3. That set the stage for the final series against Barrie. However, our bantams’ vaunted offense and stingy defensive play was too much for Barrie who were out scored 18-4 in the series.
Congratulations to th coaching staff and players on an outstanding season, as well as, being able to cope with the disappointment in the OMHAs by winning the ETA title.
