Bantam AA Bring Home the Irish Cup
The Bantam AA have won the 2018 Irish Cup.  The team traveled over 750 km to South Bend, Indiana on the weekend of November 1-4 to take part in the Irish Cup hosted at the University of Notre Dame.

The team started the tournament with a 3-1 win over the Skokie Flyers.  Following that game the Bantam AA players and their families took in a University of Notre Dame Hockey game.

Early Saturday morning the team played a physical game vs the London Jr. Mustangs that after chances at both ends ended in a 0-0 tie.  Goalie Anthony Arcangioli earned the shutout.  After almost a 10-hour break the boys were back on the ice to take on the Highland Park Falcons.  Trailing 4-2 with less than 5 minutes left the boys were able to pull out a 4-4 tie with two quick goals.  This tie caused a 3-way tie for first in the Blue Division with three teams sitting at 1-0-2.  After much discussion and following the “special” tiebreaking rules it came down to London and Oshawa and a coin toss for first place.  London won the toss and Oshawa was ranked 2nd heading into Sunday morning’s semi-final vs the Vipers from Chicago who had gone 3-0 in the preliminary round with a GF of 12 and GA of 3 on the red bracket.

Sunday morning these boys were ready to represent not only Oshawa but also all of Canada in the semi-finals and boy did Oshawa come out flying.  Hard work and determination earned the Bantam AA a trip to the final’s with a 3-2 win!

In the final, the team matched up again with the same London team we had tied in the preliminary round and who had beaten us in the coin toss. A hard fought battle between two Canadian teams was exactly what this game was.  Oshawa scored 1 in the first period and 1 in the second period to bring home the Cup with a 2-0 win.  Anthony Arcangioli once again earned the shutout and was named the MVP in the Championship game.

Congratulations to all the boys and the coaching staff on an amazing weekend and a huge thank you to all the parents and siblings who travelled and supported the team.
