Oshawa Generals Minor Atom AA's are Tournament Champions at Ajax Break the Ice
Over the weekend of September 6th to the 8th, 2019, the Oshawa Generals Minor Atom AA Hockey Club competed in the Ajax Break the Ice Tournament.

After 6 hard fought games over 3 days, the Oshawa Generals Minor Atom AA team didn't just 'Break the Ice' in Ajax, they SMASHED it as TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS!

In first game of the tourney on Friday morning, the Minor Atom AA's got off to a great start dominating 5 on 5.  However, after running into some penalty trouble they left the door open for a strong Napean squad.  Despite a sustained 3rd period push, they ended up falling just short, losing their 1st game 3-1.

In their second contest on Friday afternoon, the Minor Atom AA's came out strong and never took their foot off the gas, defeating the Whitby Wildcat 'Blue' hockey club 4-1.

Saturday morning saw the Minor Atom AA's fly out of the gate, as they dominated the Stouffville Clippers soundly with a convincing 6-0 win.

After finishing 2nd overall in their pool, the Minor Atom AA's crossed over to face a scrappy Pickering Panther squad.  Although they pushed hard and consistently carried the play, the Generals struggled to generate offensive results on the scoreboard.  Despite the initial offensive struggle, their persistence paid off defeating the Pickering Panthers 2-0.

Qualifying for the Semi-Finals, the Oshawa Generals squad arrived at the rink Sunday morning to face the top ranked Flamborough Sabres.  Despite falling behind early, the Minor Atom AA team didn't back down and fought hard to level the game at 2 late in the third.  Continuing to push, the Oshawa Generals were awarded, and converted on, a rare penalty shot with under 2 minutes remaining on the clock.  With a 3-2 lead and time running out, the Gens hung on for a hard fought victory.

In the Championship game vs the Clarington Toros, the Minor Atom AA's found themselves coming from behind once again.  Down 2-1 late in the third, and the Toro's in penalty trouble, the Oshawa Gens battled hard to draw even, eventually scoring the game winner during an extended late game power play opportunity.

With the victory, this hardworking group of players won their 1st tournament championship in over 2 years.

The Coaching Staff is incredibly proud of their Team and the 'Never Quit' Resilience they demonstrated throughout the weekend, all the while representing themselves and Oshawa Minor Hockey with Sportsmanship and Class!

Well Done!!
