A Good Old Fashioned...
...drink that is... is what the parents and coaches probably needed after the most recent game against the Central Ontario Wolves.

Sunday January 26, 2020 saw the Novice AAA Generals travel north on Simcoe Road up to Woodville to play in their 2nd regular season game against the Central Ontario Wolves.  What started out with high hopes and great expectations ended in a good old fashioned butt kicking.  Losing 7-1 to a very determined COW team.  Penalties were not our friend on this day.  Two early penalties to Nathan Wilkins and Brock Ellis respectively both lead to power play goals for COW giving them an early 2-0 lead that the Gennies were never able to recover from.  The Wolves scored another goal late in the opening period to give them a 3-0 lead heading into the second period.  During the period break Coach Corey settled the boys down and we attacked the second period the way we all knew the boys could.  No goals were scored by either side, but your Generals held their ground and managed to play with and at some point better than Central Ontario when the teams were 5-on-5.  Starting the third period, the comeback was on when Travis Hilton buried a long shot past the Wolves goalie on the very first shift.  Momentum was on our side!  That was until a coaching blunder caused the wheels to come off.  A delayed penalty was called against Noah John, that was all well and good, but unbeknownst to the entire coaching staff and from what we could hear from the stands...our entire parent group as well...there was a penalty called on #11 of the Wolves after the whistle.  "I assumed that the time keeper just didn't put up Noah's penalty and that they were on a 5-3 power play." Coach Josh was heard saying after the game.  It should be noted that Nathan Wilkins was already in the sin bin for his second penalty of the game at that time.  The Wolves have a potent 5-4 powerplay...giving them a 5-3 PP was just not fair to say the least.  They buried one and took a 4-1 lead.  The winds in our comeback sails had died on the spot.  I say the winds of the comeback died, but never did our boys give up and that is a very good positive take away from this game.  Although Central Ontario went on to score a few more goals it should be pointed out that on one of those goals, Brody Christy skated faster than he has skated all season to backcheck all the way from the other end to just get a stick on the shooter a second too late.  It is that type of effort that is going to propel this young team onto much greater things.  It is said that you only ever really learn in defeat.  Our boys learned a lot from this game and we are now a better team because of it.
