Joint Development Program in Oshawa
The Oshawa Church Hockey League and the Oshawa Minor Hockey Association are excited to announce a new partnership in the Development of players from ages U6-U9!
This joint development program will be unveiled in two parts over the course of the next two seasons. Beginning in the 2021-22 season, the program will consist of players in the U6-U7 age groups and then starting in 2022-23, the program will encompass all age groups from U6-U9.
This is being done to coincide with the OHF decision to eliminate representative hockey for U9 and below beginning in the 2022-23 season. Tiered MD teams at U8 and U9 will be offered as part of this program. These teams will have the opportunity to play games against other MD teams in the surrounding area in the second half of the season.
For this coming 21-22 season traditional rep and house league programming will continue for U8(MD) and U9 age groups.
The objective of this partnership is to teach young players and coaches the foundational skills, such as skating, stick handling, puck control and positional play as well as provide opportunities for players to practice and play with peers of similar skill levels as they age and progress through the program.
Players and coaches will come out of the program with the necessary skills and feel confident in moving into either house league or representative games at the U10 age group.
As always, we will continue to focus on having fun while providing the absolute best environment for learning this great game.
This partnership is a great step forward for youth hockey in Oshawa and we look forward to all that it has in store for everyone!
More specific details about the program will continue to be released over the coming months.
