Oshawa Novice AA Edge Again Cup Champions
Congratulations to the Oshawa Minor Generals Novice AA team on another successful championship weekend! These boys won the Edge Again Cup in Whitby on October 9th, again meeting and defeating Whitby AA in a thrilling tournament final.
The boys showed up ready to play Friday morning defeating the Markham Waxers 4-0 in their first tournament game, followed by a 9-2 victory against Whitby Blue that these boys certainly made look easy.
On Saturday the boys played Centre Wellington Fusion in a nail biter game. Both sides fought hard and our boys won with 9 seconds remaining. Our final round robin game was played against the Whitby Wildcats who were determined to stay in the tournament. A loss would have sent Whitby packing with no opportunity to carry on to the semi-finals. With two goals called back, the intense game ended in a 4-2 loss for our hard working boys.
Our boys advanced to the semis on Sunday in first place. Our semi-final game was played against Whitby Blue and their team showed up to play with a fierce determination and effort that we didn't see from them in the round robin game. They made us work for it but our boys met them and played hard. With the grit and determination we love to see from them, our boys came out on top with a 2-1 victory securing their spot in the final.
The championship game was played against the Novice AA Whitby Wildcats. With a score of 3-3 by the third period, our determined Generals continued to play hard as a team with fierce determination, wrapping up the score with a 5-3 win. The high energy continued as they received their championship medals.
It was a fun weekend for the players both on and off the ice. The coaching staff would like to acknowledge and thank all families for their dedication over the weekend, getting the boys to and from games and practices. It was a busy schedule but a great opportunity for these athletes as they continue to develop and show improvement in their game.
Let's go Generals!
